Liveurope Fora de Contexto

Seria impossível apresentar este projeto sem ligá-lo à missão do Musicbox nos seus 15 anos de programação noturna em Lisboa: divulgar os mais criativos, identitários e disruptivos novos talentos do cenário musical independente, dando-lhes um palco a partir do qual possam fazer reverberar a sua arte para lá dos limites da nacionalidade.

Sob a premissa de um continente europeu sem fronteiras, o Liveurope vem unir o Musicbox a vinte outras salas europeias, de Oslo a Barcelona à Tessalónica, no propósito comum de promover os EENNA (Emerging European Non-National Artists), músicos europeus estreantes vindos de países diferentes dos das salas que os acolhem, criando uma rede pan-europeia de difusão das novas frequências continentais. Em simultâneo, o Liveurope funcionou como uma catapulta para as estrelas de amanhã: enquanto EENNAs, ainda desconhecidos do grande público, passaram pelos espaços do seu circuito Rosalía, Christine and the Queens, Arlo Parks, Kero Kero Bonito, The Parrots, Altin Gun ou Núria Graham.

Ainda que a pandemia tenha interrompido a atividade destas salas, o Musicbox não quis que o distanciamento social causasse um curto-circuito a esta conexão entre artistas e público. Colmata-o, agora, com este catálogo de promessas da música europeia que deveriam ter passado pelo seu palco, e têm a vinda adiada ao regresso à normalidade.

São 15 artistas em ascensão, dos ritmos quentes da Andaluzia ao revivalismo escandinavo, que se destacam pela reinvenção do seu legado musical, pela abordagem criativa à mescla de géneros ou pela perspetiva única de uma sonoridade já conhecida. Em início de carreira ou com passados em outros projetos, trabalhando o formato da canção ou moldando esculturas sonoras, entre a agressão do industrial, a ginga da MPB, a fluidez do hip-hop e a efusão da eletrónica, estes nomes carregam adiante o testemunho da criação.

Senhoras e senhores, estamos perante a música do futuro.

It would be impossible to present this project without connecting it to Musicbox’s mission in its 15 years of nighttime music programming in Lisbon: to share the most creative, idiosyncratic and disruptive new talents on the independent music scene, giving them a stage from which they can make their art reverberate beyond the limits of nationality.

Under the premise of a European continent without borders, Liveurope brings together Musicbox and other twenty European music venues from Oslo to Barcelona to Thessaloniki with the common purpose of promoting EENNAs (Emerging European Non-National Artists), European musicians who are just starting and come from different countries than those of the venues receiving them, creating a pan-European network that diffuses the new continental frequencies. Simultaneously, Liveurope worked like a catapult to the starts of tomorrow: as EENNAs, still unknown to the big audiences, Rosalia, Christine and the Queens, Arlo Parks, Kero Kero Bonito, The Parrots, Altïn Gun and Nuria Graham stopped by some of this circuit’s spaces.

And even though the pandemic has interrupted the venues’ work, Musicbox didn’t want social distancing causing a shorting in this connection between artists and audiences. It tackles it, right now, with this catalog of the European music promises that should have played on its stage and saw their coming postponed to when life gets back to normal.

They are 15 artists on the rise, ranging from Andalusia’s hot rhythms to Scandinavian revivalism, that stand out for how they reinvent their musical legacy, their creative approach to genres’ blending, or for their unique perspective on an already known sound. Whether at the beginning of their career or with a history in other projects, developing the song’s format or shaping sound sculptures, standing between industrial’s rage, MPB’s Sway, hip-hop’s fluidity or electronic’s discharge, these names carry forward the testimony of creation.

Ladies and gentlemen, we are looking at music from the future.
